Edward Necarsulmer IV - agent

Another treat from the SCBWI spring conference; I was lucky enough to attend a class entitled, From Discovery to Publication- My Role as the Agent, by Edward Necarsulmer IV. I really enjoyed it, you could tell because all the seats were gone and I ended up on the floor the entire talk.
Edward heads up the Children's Literature Department at McIntosh and Otic, Inc.

He is also the agent for Holly Cuppola, a fellow SCBWI member. His biggest peeve with query letters- don't send threatening letters on letterhead! Point of fact, he doesn't like queries at all, he just wants to see your work.

He mostly deals in MG, and YA fiction.

He really seemed like an agent for the author. He doesn't pass queries around, he fights really hard for his clients, and he doesn't like the term slush pile, he calls it the "Discovery Pile."
