Anne Bensson- assoc. editor Thomas Dunne Books

Meet Anne Bensson, an editor at Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin's Press. I meet Anne at this summer's PNWA conference.

Anne graduated from Harvard, where she began indulging her reading passion as an editor and managing editor for the Let's Go Travel Series. Now she acquires and edits for Thomas Dunne Books/ Minotaur Books.
Some of her recent acquisitions include Purgatory Chasm by Steve Ulfelder and the Gothic suspense novel Beneath The Shadows by Sara Foster.

What other genres is Anne interested in? Well, she loves crime, thrillers, suspense, classic and cozy mysteries. She also likes general and historical fiction. Regarding the children's market, she  is looking for quirky and original YA. She is very interested in projects that are fast paced, have a strong narrative voice, and jump off the page characters.

When asked what she does as an editor all day she answered that 90 % of her day is promoting books she is working on. She doesn't have the time to read queries and submissions much, so she does that outside the office.

Thomas Dunne Books has an eclectic list ranging from fiction to non fiction, from debut authors to best selling authors. They have an output of around 175 books a year. Submissions are through agents only.
