"Boyds Mills Press, the trade division of Highlights for Children, Inc., was launched in 1990. Publishing books was a logical step for Highlights, which has a long tradition of helping children develop a love of reading. The skinny- Boyds Mills Press publishes fiction for ages birth to 10. They seek adventure, contemporary, humor, multicultural and rhyming books. In the nonfiction area they are looking for all levels of nature/environment, history, and science.
They have five different imprints including: Boyds Mills Press, which publishes picture books, nonfiction, activity books, and paperback reprints. Calkins Creek, which focuses on American History. Lemniscaat, which publishes original picture books in the great Dutch tradition. Front Street features children’s and young adult fiction, in hardcover and paperback, and a unique line of art- and design-driven picture books. And Wordsong,the only imprint in the country that is devoted exclusively to poetry for children.
They will not accept by email or fax!
They read submissions in the order they were received.

All submissions are evaluated for all imprints
Picture Books: "We accept submissions from both writers and illustrators. If you are an author, you do not need to send a query first. Please submit the entire manuscript of your picture book. If you are a professional illustrator submitting a picture book or if you are an author working with a professional illustrator, please include the manuscript, a dummy, and a sample reproduction of the final artwork that reflects the style and technique you intend to use. Do not send original artwork, as we cannot be held responsible for its damage or loss."
Middle Grade Fiction: "Please submit the first three chapters (do not include chapters from the middle of the book) and a plot summary. We will request the balance of the manuscript if we are interested."
