Book Review- A Girls' Guide To Dating Zombies by Lynn Messina

Welcome to this stop on The Girls’ Guide To Dating Zombies tour! Written by Lynn Messina, The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies is an adult fantasy/humor book. Want a chance to win some money? Leave a comment on this post and you will be entered in a drawing hosted by Novel Publicity!

The Story- Hattie Cross, author of The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies, is a journalist on a tabloid newspaper. She lives in a world that has been devastated by a virus that turned 99% of the male population into zombies. Luckily, these zombies only eat animal brains. So, what’s a girl to do with no men around?

Hattie’s book answers that question. She suggests living with a zombie boyfriend, or boyzomb. Her book rises up the charts, and after an interview on live TV, Hattie is invited to interview the famous Mathilda, CEO of Geiser and Meyser Pharmaceuticals, and the creator of zombie drugs.

It is the big break Hattie’s been waiting for. As an added bonus, Jake Maddox, a real live male, is on the science team. As Hattie begins her research, romance blooms, but so does suspicion. Hattie begins uncovering horrible secrets that will change the world.

My Thoughts- This book took me by surprise. At first I thought it would be a humorous tale of zombies, but to my delight it also turned into a bit of a mystery. First off, this is an adult book, with a lot of sexual references. Yes, including sex with zombies- Eww! LOL.

The story is actually 2 books in one. The chapters alternate between the story of Hattie Cross and her take down of Geiser and Meyser Pharmaceuticals and with actual chapters from her novel, The Girls’ Guide to Dating Zombies. I really enjoyed the way the author played with the two stories. The zombie novel is written prior to Hattie's experiences with Mathilda, and the reader is able to see how Hattie’s views change over time.

I enjoyed the comedy involved in the writing too. The idea’s put forth to make zombies appear fresh and appealing to women is over the top. I can’t tell you how many times I said “Eww”. This is a well written book, and zombie lovers will inhale it.

  7. This book is awesome! I never leave reviews and don't usually buy kindle books from authors I don't know since there are so many free books out there but wow! This book was funny, sweet and sassy. I love zombie books! The book was a little predictable but still the most fun book I have read in a while.
