Julia has been stuck under guard the entire summer, unable to talk to her best friend or see her boyfriend, Terrence. She finally gets a break on her birthday when Terrance is able to come for a surprise visit and take her out to dinner. Though Caleb, long time family friend, is against the idea, Julia is excited. While on the date, Julia is attacked by a siren, and everything turns to panic.
If finding Julia wasn't hard enough, Julia's evil mother is also searching for her, and Julia needs to be found before her mother gets her.
I love this new side of Julia. Siren's are actually misunderstood in the shape shifter world, and have a very bad reputation. When Julia starts turning into one she freaks out, and tries to hide it, but life isn't that easy. I love that her hair turns red, it reflects her new wild side.
If you didn't read the first book in the series, the author gives you several pages of review. I found myself only skimming them, wanting to move on in the story.
I think the funnest thing about this book is that several mysteries are either solved or put into play. The fact that Julia is part Siren causes a big stir, especially because she is royalty. We also learn what the secret was that Caleb tried to tell her at the end of book one, and it is a doozey. Then there is Sierra, who appears to have a twin, and evil royal one. I can't wait to get more into this secret in book 3.
There isn't much romance in the book. There is the love triangle with Terrence and Caleb, but it is pretty flat. I suspect it will heat up more in book 3 as Julia deals with Caleb's secret, but something in this book would have been nice. Overall, the main theme involves Julia discovering who she is and what she values, so the romance is a side part anyway.
The last thing I want to mention is the cover- beautiful. I often pick up a book based on cover art, and this one would grab my attention.
