Midsummer's Eve Giveaway Hop- Kevin Emerson's Dark Shore

Welcome to the Midsummer's Eve Giveaway Hop! Today I am reviewing and putting up a Giveaway for Kevin Emerson's Dark Shore, his latest YA dystopian. Plus, he is throwing in a copy of book 1, The Lost Code! So 2 books are up for grab!

The Story-
Owen, Lily and Leech have escaped Paul and Camp Eden, only to find themselves at the mercy of the Earth's horrid post-apocalyptic climate. Desperate for food and rest, they enter lands that appear to have been ravaged by a plague. Things go horribly wrong and a member of their party is injured.

Owen is forced to take them to Desenna, a co-op of people living like ancient Aztecs, human sacrifice and all. There our trio discover the second crystal skull, and the identity of the third Atlantean. But, all is not well, for Paul is on the move and he plans to kill everyone in his path.

My Thoughts-

I liked this book much better than book one. It seems very consistent and follows a strong plot line. The mystery of the three Atlanteans and what they will accomplish is what brought me to book 2, and I'm glad I did.

The characters are so much stronger in Dark Shore. I love how Leech is portrayed, I almost forgot he was the jerk from book 1. Plus, we learn his back story, which ends up turning into one of the subplots.

Lilly is fun. There is not a lot of romance in this book, mostly because Lilly is going through some identity problems, but I do like how she grows. We get subtle hints throughout her stay in Desenna that something is going on with her, and even though I thought I knew what was going on, I wasn't completely sure until the author let the secret out of the bag.

I would definitely say this is a book for mature readers. As in book 1, there is a lot of blood and gore, plus some gruesome imagery. And SPOILER- Kevin amazingly is able to bring zombies into the book in a unique way (this is not a zombie story, there is just a zombie scene).

Plus, this is one of the twistiest books I've read in a long time. There are so many different unknowns brought to life. Just after one pops up, boom, there's another. I love this. It really keeps you reading and leaves you anxious for book 3.

The Giveaway!
