Pooja Menon- Literary Agent

Let's look Inside the Publishing World and focus on literary agent Pooja Menon.

Who is Pooja?
She is an agent at Kimberley Cameron & Assoc. She began with them as an intern in 2011, and became a full time agent in the fall of 2012. I met her this summer at the 2013 PNWA conference. As a newer agent she is looking to build her list.

What does she represent?
Pooja ranges from YA to adult and fiction to non-fiction. In fiction she is interested in literary, historical, commercial and high-end women's fiction. In non-fiction, she's looking for memoir, human-interest, self-help relationship and journalism. She represents YA fiction in contemporary, historical, mystery and thrillers.

What is she looking for?
She likes international stories with vibrant characters and lush settings. In fantasy, she wants well developed worlds that are multi-layered and real. She'll look at all YA and also children's non-fiction.

Her advice to writers?

"Do use social media to help you connect with other authors." She told us that she not only uses social media, but found 3 of her clients that way. You can find her on twitter at @friscodreamer.

"Don't lose hope or get frustrated. Plow ahead."
