It's YA Friday and I'm taking a look at the 3rd and final book in the Everneath series, Evertrue, by Brodi Ashton.
Nikki and Jack are together again, but Cole has one more trick to play. He has contrived to have Nikki turn into an Everliving and has stolen her surface heart. Now Nikki can only survive by feeding on Cole. But, Nikki isn't one to give up, and she wants vengeance. Together with Jack, she plans to take down the entire Everneath.
Luck is on their side when Cole shows up down trodden and with a case of amnesia. Can Nikki mold him into a new person? A person who will help her take down the Everneath?
A great conclusion to the whole trilogy. I was surprised by the twist at the end of book two, that Nikki is half way to becoming an Everliving. This book starts off right from that turn of events. I love Nikki's reaction. She doesn't give up. She just decides to destroy everything.
Then we have Cole. The author presents him to the readers with amnesia, which is perfect, because it gives Cole a chance to show another side of himself and also to have the opportunity at redemption. The sad thing, I liked both Jack and Cole and wanted both to win. Which, of course, is impossible. The author does a great job stringing along the tension and creating a huge build-up to the final shocking moments when Nikki finally realizes the truth of everything.
And the sentiment, Evertrue, how romantic. 4 stars!
