The Story-
Amanda attends a secret school that trains youth with the skills they need to work for the CIA, FBI, etc. She is only a junior, and should have a whole nother year left, but she is unexpectedly graduated early and placed into the Annum Guard, a unit she's never heard about.

Alpha, the man who recruits her, tells her that they are the guardians of time. Each operative is given a a watch that can send them into the past. The unit's goal is not to "change" time, but to enhance it. Amanda, now code named Iris, soon learns that all isn't what it seems and that the people running the Annum Guard are actually delving into things they shouldn't. When she begins to look deeper, she is cast out and declared a traitor.

Her only chance is to flee through time, gathering facts about the Annum Guard, and proving her innocence. Oh yeah, she also has to decide whether to save her father's life or leave history alone.

My thoughts-
Very interesting. When I picked up the book I thought that I would be reading a futuristic fantasy, but the whole story is centered in the present, which is fun, because you have to think, "what have they already changed?".

Amanda is a strong character whose back story is full. She has a father that was killed when she was  young and a bi-polar mother. She flees life with her mom by entering Peel Academy. Little does she know that she is bringing her life full circle. At school she has a boy friend named Abe. We don't see him much in the beginning, but her devotion to him is set. I found this devotion to be a strong pull in her life and really set the stage for her being a loyal and true guardian.

I wish there had been more time travel events described in the story. As it is, Amanda is just in a couple places and we don't get to explore. The best scene that shows a touch of life back when, is when Yellow (another guardian) is injured and forced to seek treatment in the past. That scene really came to life.

Without really exciting time travel scenes, what makes you turn the pages are the several mysteries the author lays out. Amanda is determined to find out what the guard is about. The reader is given information just as vague as our main character, so we rejoice when she uncovers something new. There is also the mystery of Amanda's father. Her motive for becoming a spy was to gain access to top secret documents that would tell her what happened to her father. Being in the Annum Guard gives her access on a basic level, but it is enough to set the ball rolling and for a huge mystery about the Annum's past to open up. Of course, Amanda needs to uncover that truth too.

Fun reading that will bring the reader into the story and into the hidden mysteries. 4 stars!
