The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier

I have a great middle grade novel for everyone today. It is The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier. It will be released tomorrow by Amulet Books.

The Story-
Molly and Kip are desperate. The young siblings left Ireland after their parents went missing and are looking for work to survive. Kip is a cripple and has been struck with a fever. Molly agrees to work as a house servant at the Windsor home in the Sourwoods.  The Windsor home is a run down mansion in the middle of an island that the townspeople warn the kids is haunted.

But, Molly and Kip don't have a choice. Molly begins work inside, while Kip works out in the gardens. Things are strange at the mansion. The Windsor family seem pale and weak, almost as if they are fading away. And then there is the strange visitor that roams the house at night, leaving wet, muddy footprints in his wake. If that wasn't enough, there is a huge, sinister tree that has grown right through the house and which oozes an evil funk.

As time passes, Molly and Kip uncover an ancient curse that threatens to kill anyone living at the mansion. The siblings are determined to save the family, but the lurking evil is more powerful than they ever imagined.

My Thoughts-
Wow, a great, creepy story. At first everything seems normal, the story progresses as our siblings work at the Windsor house. Soon though, strange things begin to happen, and you think okay, there's something creepy. But then, it gets darker and as you uncover the curse you shiver.

I was incredibly impressed at this author's story telling ability. It just sucks you right into the story and as things get bad you can't help but worry right along with Molly and Kip. Our two main characters are so well written, and their backgrounds are told in exciting details.

And I just have to mention the cover art- breathtaking! This is a must read! 5 stars!
