Book Review and SIGNED Giveaway- Mysteries of Cove- Fires of Invention by J. Scott Savage
Welcome to Middle Grade Monday! Today I am taking part in the blog tour for a fantastic new middle grade steampunk fantasy, Mysteries of Cove- Fires of Invention by J. Scott Savage. As an added bonus, I have a SIGNED copy to giveaway. To enter fill out the rafflecopter form below.
Kallista is the daughter of Leo Babbage, an inventor blamed for the death of others. She works as a repair technician and stays out of people's way. In secret, she continues on with her father's work. Brought together when Trenton discovers a puzzle box left by Leo, they begin uncovering clues about the history of Cove and the real reason inventions are outlawed.
The truth they discover is mind-blowing, and together they race to finish Leo's last invention. They know that time is short, because if what they uncovered is factual, then Cove is in great danger and only they can save their friends and families.
Wow, this book hooked me from the very beginning and did not let go. It is full of so many great puzzles and such mind blowing revelations that I couldn't put it down. Trenton and Kallista are both amazing characters filled with emotion, determination and spunk. They are the perfect foils for each other. Their backgrounds are rich and fully developed, which make their present undertakings even more tense.
The mystery of Cove is so fun to uncover. All of the secrets build until the final discovery, and let me tell you, I did not see the truth coming. Everything seems set for a normal apocalyptic series, and then wham! a huge twist about the outside world.
The cove itself is a unique setting and the discoveries by Trenton and Kallista of other levels in the mountain is super. Plus, the towns people are so odd. The fact that they will do anything to keep living in a dull, uneventful world, really drives you nuts. Trenton's mom is even worse. She commits and act of betrayal that makes the reader want to scream at the pages. Her personal story is revealed, which explains her decisions, but her choice is still cringe worthy. Poor Trenton.
I loved this book and I can not wait for book 2.
