Publishing Spotlight- Persea Books
Welcome to Inside the Publishing World Wednesday. Today I am checking out Persea Books, an independent, literary publishing house founded in 1975 by Michael Braziller and Karen Braziller, who still own and direct the company.
What are they looking for?
In Fiction, they publish both YA and Adult. They are seeking several genres including, literary, real-life, contemporary, multi-cultural, adventure and mystery.
In Nonfiction, they are looking for YA and Adult that include social issues, real life issues and multi-culturalism.
Their site says, "Our books cover a wide range of themes, styles, and genres. We have published poetry, fiction, essays, memoir, biography, titles of Jewish and Middle Eastern interest, women's studies, American Indian folklore, and revived classics, as well as a notable selection of works in translation."
"Most of all, we are looking for the fresh voice, a clear point of view, the well-written work that will endure. We are pleased to publish debut books and to continue publishing the authors we take on.'
What they don't want-
"We do not publish genre fiction (romance, fantasy, science fiction, thrillers), self-help, textbooks, or children's books."
How to Submit-
They accept both snail mail and email submissions. Check out their guidelines HERE. They only respond if interested.
