Martha Mihalick- Editor, Greenwillow Books

Today's Inside the Publishing World will focus on associate editor Martha Mihalick, of Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins.
I meet her this Spring at the SCBWI WWA conference.

Martha has spent ten years at Greenwillow Books, she describes them as, "a fairly literary imprint". There are nine people total who work there and they publish about 35 books a year. All nine editors work on every book.

Talking about books Martha says, "Books change us. I am who I am because of Matilda and A Wrinkle In Time". She also loves Bridge to Terabithia, she reads it again every year.

Martha acquires books for children and teens, from PB to YA. She is open to all genres except horror. Authors and artists she has worked with include Kevin Henkes, Lynne Rae Perkins, Peter Sis, Megan Whalen Turner, Chris Crutcher, and Naomi Shihab Nye.

Who is Martha looking to publish? She wants people who, "don't write to a trend". She is looking for people that will still be with her for 20 years.
