It's time for some YA, an I've got a book review plus a giveaway! Let's take a look at the YA thriller STUNG, by Bethany Wiggins. The publisher is offering up one copy to a lucky reader. Just fill out the rafflecopter form at the bottom of the post to enter.
The Story:
Fiona wakes up in her own bed, but everything is different than she remembers. She seems to have lost several years and her entire family. Exploring outside, she finds an abandoned world, the leftovers of which are filled with violent humans.
Shaken, Fiona tries to find help, but falls into the hands of the military. They consider her a threat because of a mysterious tattoo on her arm that marks her as infected. As our story progresses, we learn of a world where bee's are dead, the flu has killed millions, and the survivors live within a walled city with a life expectancy of 55. Oh, and women are used for breeding.
For some reason, Fiona is marked, but uninfected. Does she hold the cure? If only she could remember and escape her captors.
My Thoughts-
This is a good thriller. I love it when characters wake up with no memories and we get to learn as we read along. The dystopian world that the author creates is ironic because the people have caused their own fate. I loved it. What we are left with are raving beasts, and scared people.
Fiona takes her role in stride. Though she can't remember, she does her best to uncover her new world, and is willing to risk her life to make it better. There is also a bit of a love interest that I found fun.
There are violent scenes and the role that humanity has taken upon itself is base and cruel. I found that the love between Fiona and her brother was a great reminder as to what is the really important - a love that transcends all bounds.
I think you'll enjoy this one.
