Welcome to Inside the Publishing World Wednesday. Today let's meet Marilyn Allen, an agent from the Allen O'Shea Literary Agency. I met Marilyn at this Summer's PNWA conference.
She represents practical nonfiction including: biography, cooking, history, events and studies, lifestyle, pop culture and humor, science and nature, self-help, health, business, sex, parenting and crafts.
What is her experience in the publishing world?
Currently Marilyn is the founder and partner at Allen O'Shea Literary Agency. She has spent the last 13 years as an agent and considers it the "joy of her life." Before that she held senior positions in sales and marketing for Penguin and Simon & Schuster, and was the associate publisher and senior vice president of marketing for HarperCollins.
What is her advice for authors?
Marilyn gave us two great tips.
1. "Show me your passion."
2. "Don't start at the last minute to market and use social media."
What are her submissions instructions? (Straight from the website http://www.allenoshealiteraryagency.com/contact.html)
