The Light by Robert Jones
Hi! Welcome to Middle Grade Monday! Today I have a picture book with a beautiful message, one that I found comforting after the loss of my father in December. The book is The Light, by Robert Jones. It is a picture book that came to be drafted from a goodnight prayer of sorts for his two young daughters. His wife and he felt compelled to offer both direct and aspirational answers to questions they were beginning to ask about life and their place in it. Over time – and as his daughters aged – the story evolved into a simple conversation.
I found the book to be very simple, with a message of peace and beautiful pictures which reminded me of Impressionistic art. A book with only a few hundred words, it is hard to describe, but the author sent me a link to the book trailer, which shows some of the fantastic images- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIyLHxETrB4&feature=youtu.be

I recently attended a funeral for a colleague and ON THE DAY YOU WERE BORN, a picture book by Nancy Tillman was read. It was a celebration of life I found to be very inspiring. So sorry for the loss of your father.
ReplyDeleteThank you Greg! It was a hard two months.
DeleteWhat a lovely book for families. The video gives you a sense of the beautiful artwork. I love the variety of grief books out there. One of my favorites is" Sun Kisses and Moon Hugs" by Susan Bernardo Schaeffer -- for very young children. It's also can be used for separation.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss, Dorine. It's great to know of a book that helped you. Thanks for telling me about it. The images on the trailer are lovely.
